Welcome! Let's get to know each other.

Welcome to my blog about my exchange in Japan! My name is Karli and I am thrilled to share my experiences with you as I embark on this exciting journey.

I'm a fifth-generation Nikkei, a person of Japanese descent, and I also have Puerto Rican ancestry. I'm half Japanese so I grew up learning about Japanese culture from my mother and my family in Vancouver, but I always wanted to speak Japanese. As a result, I decided to enroll in Japanese language courses at the University of British Columbia in January 2021. Studying abroad in Japan is another extension allowing me to explore my connection to my Japanese heritage.

Living in Japan has always been a dream of mine, and I am grateful for the opportunity to immerse myself in a new culture, meet new people, and expand my horizons. In this blog, I will be documenting my adventures, sharing tips and tricks for living in Japan, and reflecting on the personal growth that comes with stepping out of your comfort zone. I hope my experiences will inspire you to consider going on exchange and help you prepare for your own adventure!
